Lake Oswego, OR

The City of Lake Oswego was founded by the Durham's in 1850 and originally named after a town from their home state of New York. Oswego was derived from the Iroquis phrase meaning "flowing out", not a bad choice for a lake. The lake was originally named "Sucker" for the fish the settlers caught there. Can you imagine the city being called "Lake Sucker" today, luckily they changed the name of the lake in 1927.

Oregon's first iron foundry was established on the shores and used the trees surrounding it to drive it's furnaces. If you look back at the title history of some of the original homes, you'll see "Oregon Iron & Steel Company" as the original title owner. They found after 40 years that real estate was more profitable than struggling to compete with the east coast iron industry. They made it possible for Portlanders to "Live Where You Play", and they have been playing ever since!

The town of Oswego was growing faster than the land they had available so they made a compromise with the community of "Lake Grove" join their respective lands and names. In 1960 the two merged and incorporated to become the city of "Lake Oswego".

Lake Oswego has been and continues to be one of Oregon's most desirable cities to live. If your desire is to "Live where you Play", then we should talk.
